Everybody makes the decision to move home at some point – when your current home is no longer meeting your requirements, your growing family is outgrowing your home or even an opportunity to downsize after the nest has emptied.
After spending the time to find the house of your dreams, you’ll be counting the days to move day! As the day moves closer, you need to start thinking about everything that needs to be considered for the big day.
Move day can lead to high emotions and anxiety. Mostly, you’re just hoping everything runs smoothly. To lighten your load, here are a few things you might want to consider to help organise your move!
Packing needs to start Early!
Packing early is vital. Start with the non-essentials. This will save you somewhat from the last minute rush! Start saving delivery boxes, ask your moving company for boxes etc. You can start packing the non-essentials early!
Reassure the Kids
Moving can be confusing for your kids – so start preparing them. They need to know what’s happening. Talk about the new house and reassure them that all their toys are coming too. They are likely to have a lot of questions, but as long as you try to answer them all before the big move, things should run smoothly on the day.
Make sure to tell the schools in advance too. Details include the location of your new address, or if the kids have had to move school, the date your children are expected to start.

Don’t forget about the Pets!
Moving home can be stressful and confusing for your pets too. It will be even more stressful for you if you have them running around and getting under your feet during the move.
Get someone to pet sit for you for the day of move at least, if not for the first few days of the move too. This will give you some time to get settled before letting your pet loose in their new surroundings.
Get your Essentials Box prepared
On moving day, it’s useful for everyone to have an Essentials or a Day of Move box. The box can be small but it’s one you know where it is at all time. Having one will make the move more bearable. Pack things like teabags, kettle, mugs and a radio – ideal for taking short breaks between moving from one house to the next.
Get the professionals in!
No matter how much you try to prepare, a big move is always going to be stressful! These tips are just a few things you can do to make the day run smoother. If it does feel impossible, start looking at professional movers as soon as possible!
