Employment Opportunities with Two Men And A Truck

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we often talk about the endless employment opportunities we have available, from frontline roles to management positions. Here we have an example of the great employment opportunities available at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®.

Our Watford branch manager started off at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® as a Customer Service Representative, with hopes of furthering his career in a company with plenty of employment opportunities.

Starting on the Frontlines

Barry’s TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® story started off in the North West where he had grown disillusioned with life in the North. After meeting up with old friend and current TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® general manager Alistair Sheddon, Barry was invited to work as a CSR under Alistair for the Chiswick branch. As part of the induction process, Barry was asked to complete a psychometric test to match his personality to the sales role he was to undertake. At the same time, CEO Tom Hefferon asked Barry to complete the branch manager psychometric test to understand his potential future at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. After completing the profile with flying colours, Barry began his tenure at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®.

Barry’s journey from CSR to branch manager was quick. After a brief holiday break, Barry became the in-home consultant for the West London, Chiswick and Watford branches. This led to travelling over 100 miles a day across the three territories, ensuring customers understood what made TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® different to other moving companies.

Becoming Branch Manager

Two months after becoming in-home consultant, Barry progressed further to becoming TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Watford branch manager. After moving into sizeable new digs, the Watford branch has come along to include three trucks permanently residing at the location. All Watford jobs now also dispatch from the office rather than our Head Office in our West London location. Alongside branch manager responsibilities, Barry also gives the presents the training programme to new movers and drivers. Training is a key aspect of being a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® employee.

Some of the responsibilities of the branch manager include networking with the local business community and local business groups such as the FSB, BNI and the business community at Watford FC. Some of the local business relationships cultivated include with storage facilities like Big Yellow in Watford and independent estate agents. Other responsibilities include going on in-home consultations to ensure customers get the most accurate price possible for their move. At the same time, Barry is still thinking about long-term strategy including expansion within the current TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Watford team and as well as commercial strategy.

Ensuring that his staff are happy and great at their jobs is a key aspect of Barry’s job as branch manager. Overall, he manages 8 members of staff including a Customer Sales Representative, movers and drivers. Of his 8 members of staff, Barry is most proud of Dayle, a member of the core moving team. When Dayle started at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® in January 2014, Dayle had trouble lifting, a key skill for a mover! After being welcomed into the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® team Dayle understood that he needed to up his game. Now, he regularly works out at home to ensure he can keep up with the team! Over a 4 month transition, Dayle has become a key member of the core Watford move team.

“Being able to give Dayle a chance and for him to become a valuable member of the team says that the way we do things at Two Men And A Truck Watford is works. Our company culture has helped develop someone’s core skills, and for me, as branch manager, is great” said Barry Collins.
